The Agriculture and Food Science Exploration (AFSE) Day is taking place on Wednesday, July 10th and is a collaborative effort between Mower County 4-H, Riverland Community College, Nexus Cooperative, and Austin Community Education. This event is designed for youth in grades 6-9 who have an interest in science, biology, chemistry, engineering, computers, agriculture, mathematics, and food science.
Throughout the day, participants will have the opportunity to explore various aspects of agriculture and food science through engaging tours, hands-on learning labs, and leadership development activities. They will learn about agronomy, animal science, and food science by visiting different locations and participating in practical activities. Some of the activities planned include a Corn/Soybean/Drone activity presented by Nexus Cooperative, a tour of Read’s Brown Swiss Dairy farm, a visit to Absolute Energy Ethanol Plant to learn about biofuels production process and a Food Science activity by Hormel Foods that will teach them how to make their own sausage.
Registration for the event is now open at https://z.umn.edu/AgandFoodExplorationDay by June 26th. The cost of registration is $12 per participant which includes lunch and t-shirt.
