Owner of Funeral Home in Morgan County Speaks Out After Radar-Confirmed Tornado Destroys Business

A tornado touched down near Sunbright on Tuesday afternoon, causing significant damage to several businesses, including Schubert Funeral Home. According to the National Weather Service, there were no reported injuries.

Billy Glen Kennedy, owner of Schubert Funeral Home, received a call from a friend informing him that the funeral home had been destroyed by the tornado. Kennedy, who has worked at the funeral home for 40 years and owned it for the last 11 years, expressed shock and disbelief at the extent of the damage caused.

Although Kennedy had heard a tornado warning, he did not think much of it as there was minimal wind or rain at his home just four miles away. Upon arriving at the funeral home and seeing the devastation, Kennedy expressed gratitude that no one was hurt in the tornado.

Despite the damage to Schubert Funeral Home and other businesses in Sunbright, Kennedy emphasized that material things can be replaced and that the safety of individuals is paramount. He noted that friends and members of the Sunbright community have offered their support, which he greatly appreciates.

Kennedy mentioned that it is uncertain when Schubert Funeral Home will reopen but services will continue in Wartburg. He urged people to keep Sunbright in their thoughts and thanked everyone for their support during this difficult time.
