Deadly Clash between Cartels Leaves 33 Victims in Chiapas

A violent clash between hitmen representing the Sinaloa, Chiapas, and Guatemala cartels resulted in the death of 19 individuals in the state of Chiapas. The Mexican government’s Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) confirmed the discovery of 19 bodies inside a truck in La Concordia, Chiapas, over the weekend. The incident was attributed to a confrontation among the mentioned criminal factions.

On a road connecting Jaltenango de la Paz with La Reforma, the corpses of several individuals were found following a report received on Saturday, June 29. A day prior, a video circulated on social media depicted lifeless bodies in a cargo truck, with individuals claiming to be part of the Sinaloa Cartel and alleging the victims were linked to a rival organization operating between Chiapas and Guatemala.

The violent event saw 15 men murdered by gunfire in the back of the truck, with two more in the cabin, two to the side, and one located approximately 100 meters from the vehicle, all displaying signs of large-caliber bullet impacts. In response to the discovery, the federal government dispatched 200 agents to enhance security in the region.
