BCCI announces a prize of INR 125 crore for India – the T20 World Champions

The Indian cricket team, which has won the T20 World Cup, will receive a bonus of INR 125 crore (USD 15 million) from the BCCI. This announcement was made by Jay Shah, the Board secretary, a day after India’s thrilling victory over South Africa in the final match in Barbados. Shah praised the team for their exceptional talent, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, congratulating all the players, coaches, and support staff for their outstanding achievement.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) had previously announced a cash prize of USD 2.45 million for the winners of the World Cup, with an additional $31,154 for each match won by every team except for the semi-finals and finals. This year’s cash prize is the highest in the history of men’s T20 World Cup and represents a significant increase from previous tournaments. In total, all teams participating in this year’s tournament received more prize money than before. The total prize money doubled from USD 5.6 million in 2022 to USD 11.25 million this year.

In addition to the cash prize for India as winners of T20 World Cup, South Africa received USD 1.28 million as runners-up while Afghanistan and England each received USD 787,500 as losing semi-finalists.

This tournament is one of the most lucrative in cricket history due to an increase in prize money for all participating teams compared to previous years.
