College Football’s Adaptation and Innovation: From Draft Picks to Covering COVID-19

In a post-draft reaction show, Dan Wetzel, Ross Dellenger, and Pat Forde discussed the biggest headlines from the 2024 NFL Draft. They began by analyzing the destinations of the top quarterback prospects, focusing on the surprise pick of Michael Penix Jr. by the Atlanta Falcons and the Denver Broncos decision to select Bo Nix from Oregon.

The trio then reviewed the broadcasting debuts of coaching legends Bill Belichick and Nick Saban on ESPN broadcasts. Dellenger highlighted Saban’s charisma and how it will bring excitement to College Gameday in the fall. They also shared their favorite picks from the draft, discussing which selections they believe were the best fits and have the potential for successful careers.

The show concluded with a story about a man who was arrested for a DUI due to his auto-brewery syndrome. The timestamps for key discussions were provided, covering topics such as 1st Round Quarterbacks, Nick Saban and Bill Belichick’s broadcasting debuts, the best picks in the draft, and auto-brewery syndrome.

In addition to their analysis of quarterback prospects and coaches’ broadcasting debuts, Forde also discussed some interesting stories that he came across during his time covering college football during COVID-19 pandemic year.

Forde shared how many schools had to reschedule games due to outbreaks among players or staff members. He also talked about how some schools were forced to shut down temporarily after positive COVID-19 cases emerged.

Despite these challenges, Forde said that college football has been able to adapt in ways that other sports have not been able to do so far.

“College football has done an incredible job at adapting,” Forde said.

“We’ve seen so much innovation over this past year – from virtual practices to new safety protocols – it’s amazing what these programs have been able to come up with.”

Overall, Forde believes that while there may be some challenges ahead for college football in coming years,

“It’s going to be okay,” he said.
