Collaboration between NASA and HBKU: Driving Innovation in Quantum Technologies.

NASA has partnered with Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s (HBKU) College of Science and Engineering (CSE) through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to focus on quantum research and education. This collaboration, led by CSE’s Qatar Center for Quantum Computing (QC2), aims to explore various opportunities in quantum communications, sensing, and space-based applications.

One of the main goals of this partnership is to conduct a feasibility study on developing technologies for quantum communications and networking, as well as quantum sensors for space science and observation. This will involve testing systems for applications like blind quantum computing, distributed quantum computing, and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI). The collaboration may also lead to potential space-based quantum missions for technology demonstration and testing.

In addition to research efforts, HBKU and NASA will work together on training, education, and workforce development in the field of quantum technologies. They plan to establish specialized educational programs to build local capacity and attract talent from the region.

Dr. Saif Al-Kuwari, Director of QC2, highlighted the broad scope and importance of this collaboration, stating how it aligns with QC2’s objectives and has the potential to drive innovation in quantum technologies. For more information on this partnership between HBKU’s CSE
