Closing the Gender Divide: The Urgent Need for Diversity and Inclusion in STEM Fields

The underrepresentation of women in STEM fields and leadership roles remains a challenge, despite the abundance of opportunities available. Even though more women are pursuing higher education, only 25% continue to study STEM subjects at the university level, down from 35% after GCSEs.

Moreover, women account for only 29.4% of the STEM workforce, with an even greater underrepresentation in leadership positions and on boards. Research has shown that UK firms with one-third female executive boards are ten times more profitable than companies with all-male boards.

These statistics underscore the need to promote diversity and inclusion in STEM fields by encouraging and supporting women to pursue these careers and advance to leadership positions. Efforts must be made to close the gender gap in these sectors to ensure that everyone has equal opportunities to succeed.
