2023 ATHLON SPORTS PRESEASON ALL-AMERICA TEAM

STORRS, Conn. – UConn senior offensive lineman Christian Haynes (Bowie, MD) added another preseason honor to his resume this week, earning a spot on the 2023 Athlon Sports College Football Preseason All-America Team.  Haynes was named to the 2023 preseason second team offense for the annual college football publication.

Haynes has also earned a spot on the 2023 Walter Camp Preseason FBS All-American team, presented by 777.  Haynes was named to the second team on the preseason list.

At the end of the 2022 campaign, Haynes was named to the Associated Press and Sporting News All-American teams.  He was just the third Husky in the FBS era to garner All-American honors and the first since running back Jordan Todman was tabbed a first team choice by the Sporting News in 2010 as well as earning a spot on the AP (2nd team) and Walter Camp Foundation (2nd team).  In 2008, running back Donald Brown became UConn’s first All-American since joining FBS, also being named to the first team by the Sporting News and second team by the Associated Press and the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

The UConn guard anchored the Husky offensive line and running game in 2022.  Haynes, along with rest of his linemates, started all 13 games fueled a rushing attack that averaged 194.9 yards per game.  The Huskies went over 200-yards plus rushing in six games and three-straight to close out the regular season.  Haynes, who has started 37-straight games over the last three seasons, also led a unit that ranked 30th nationally in sacks allowed, giving up 17 on the season, just 1.42 per game.
