The Cubs have recently announced changes to their front office, with Jared Banner being moved into the role of assistant general manager. Sources have confirmed that Banner will now be working under GM Carter Hawkins and president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer.
In a move that reflects the Cubs’ commitment to maintaining a strong player development infrastructure for the future, the team has reorganized its front office. This restructuring comes after Craig Breslow left the Cubs to lead the Red Sox baseball operations. Breslow had been the assistant GM and VP of pitching with the Cubs in recent years.
In addition to Banner’s new role, the Cubs are also in the process of finding a new farm director to fill the vacancy left by Banner’s promotion. Under his leadership, the Cubs have built a highly-regarded farm system, earning praise from outlets like FanGraphs, MLB Pipeline, and Bleacher Report. FanGraphs ranked the Cubs as the top farm system, while MLB Pipeline and Bleacher Report placed them at 4th and 2nd in the league, respectively.
