Response from Central Chamber of Commerce Board to CEO and AKT Social Media Dispute.

On Monday, the Central Chamber of Commerce released a statement regarding the labor market situation following a message from CEO Juho Romakkaniemi that had sparked controversy with the AKT union. This was an unusual move for the organization, as they typically remain silent in labor market disputes. The board emphasized the importance of respecting employees’ statutory rights and freedoms to decide whether or not to join unions.

The disagreement began when Romakkaniemi urged SAK members to resign from their union and join the General Unemployment Fund instead. Ismo Kokko of the AKT union reacted strongly to this message, announcing the termination of banking cooperation with the OP Group, where Romakkaniemi is connected as CEO. Kokko accused Romakkaniemi of being instructed by Timo Ritakallio, CEO of OP Group and chairman of Central Chamber of Commerce.
