Center for High Technology Materials to host 40th-anniversary celebration: UNM Newsroom

The University of New Mexico’s Center for Higher Technologies Supplies (CHTM) will commemorate its 40th anniversary with a public celebration, June 15, 2023.

CHTM, situated at 1313 Goddard SE in UNM’s Science and Technologies Park, is an interdisciplinary study hub with 15 faculty who serve dual appointments at the center and in academic departments across the University. The center has generated far more than 268 patents and mentored far more than 600 graduate students.

“In its 40 years of history, CHTM has grow to be a effective and essential contributor to UNM’s interdisciplinary study as effectively as financial improvement activities in New Mexico,” Payman Zarkesh-Ha, director of CHTM, stated. “CHTM has been and will continue to assistance define the future of photonics and nanotechnology at national and international levels. CHTM’s greatest days are but to come!”

The celebration will consist of a discussion of the center’s history and future, a keynote presentation on progress in semiconductor-associated technologies, poster presentations on present study, a time capsule burial and far more. The occasion-filled day will kick off at 9:30 a.m. with registration and a light breakfast and will wrap up about five:00 p.m. following the time capsule burial.

In addition to hearing from business authorities and CHTM faculty and alumni, occasion attendees will also have the chance to tour the multi-million dollar facility which includes the nanofabrication cleanroom facility, development capabilities, semiconductor characterization tools and optics labs.

CHTM is a main intellectual home (IP) contributor to UNM Rainforest Innovations, a non-profit corporation accountable for commercializing university study outcomes and coordinating financial improvement possibilities.

“CHTM is 1 of the most prolific centers at the University, in aspect since it combines different disciplines and that interdisciplinary study generally leads to inventions,” Lisa Kuutila, UNM Rainforest Innovations CEO, stated. “The space that CHTM occupies in non-silicon-primarily based semiconductor study is a niche for UNM that tends to make it 1 of the premier places in the nation.”

Amongst the center’s greatest accomplishments have been its contributions to student understanding. As 1 of the University’s highest-level study facilities, the organization gives invaluable expertise for students at education levels ranging from higher college all the way by means of doctoral function.

“For the final 40 years, UNM’s Center for Higher Technologies Supplies has not only led the planet in supplies study on epitaxial development of crystalline films, subsequent-generation photonic and electronic supplies, semiconductors, and state-of-the-art quantum supplies, but CHTM scientists have also mentored and educated hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students eventually carving the path for new generations of innovators and thinkers in this space,” stated Ellen Fisher, Vice President for Analysis. “The study and scholarship performed inside the center is not only an invaluable aspect of our UNM neighborhood but a crucial element that assists drive science and engineering innovation to the subsequent level, each inside our state and about the globe.”

These interested in attending are encouraged to pre-register for the occasion on the web. Media interested in attending should really RSVP to Carly Bowling at cbowling1@unm.edu.
