Celtics bring back Luke Kornet with one-year contract extension: Report

The Boston Celtics wasted no time in NBA free agency by re-signing Luke Kornet to a one-year deal, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. Kornet, a 7-foot-2 center, played a crucial role for the Celtics last season, averaging 5.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and one block per game.

As Kornet turns 29 on July 15, he is expected to have a more significant role on the team next season, especially with Kristaps Porzingis sidelined due to injury. Porzingis is expected to be out until November or December after undergoing surgery. Kornet’s presence will be crucial in providing depth for the Celtics frontcourt, particularly as they navigate through early season challenges without Porzingis.

With Kornet back on the team, the Celtics now have six free agents on the market, including Xavier Tillman, Oshae Brissett, Svi Mykhailiuk, JD Davison, Drew Peterson and Neemias Queta. The Celtics will look to maintain their chemistry and continuity from last season while ensuring that they have a strong roster heading into the next NBA season.
