Oakland County prioritizes mental health resources for residents following mass shooting

In the wake of a mass shooting at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad in Rochester Hills, Michigan, the community is placing a strong emphasis on mental health and well-being as police continue to investigate the incident. On June 15th, nine people were injured, including two children, in a random act of violence that occurred at the splash pad. The gunman took his own life inside his home shortly after the shooting.

In response to this tragedy, Oakland County officials have taken steps to support those affected by the shooting. Various events are being organized, such as vigils and meal trains, to assist impacted families. Additionally, a Family Assistance Center has been set up at the Rochester Hills Department of Public Services building, where therapists will be available starting Sunday to provide support to anyone in need.

The Oakland County Health Network is also mobilizing to help the Rochester Hills community recover from this difficult event. Those seeking assistance are encouraged to utilize the resources at the Family Assistance Center, where therapists will be available Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Additionally, individuals can contact a nurse on call at 800-848-5533 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays if they are unable to visit the center in person.
