Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School Acquires Former Medaille University Campus: A New Chapter for Education in Buffalo, NY

The Buffalo Academy of Science Charter School has recently acquired the former Medaille University campus in Buffalo, NY from Charter Schools Development Corporation (CSDC). The 14-acre campus will be leased by BuffSci from CSDC and will serve as the new home for the school. Mark Zeizel, Senior Vice President at CSDC, expressed his support for the vision of the Buffalo Academy of Science Charter Schools and the positive impact that the new campus will have on the community.

Dr. Joseph Polat, Executive Director of Buffalo Academy of Science Charter Schools, highlighted the unique setting of the former university campus as an inspiring environment for future generations. The move to this new campus presents a significant opportunity for BuffSci to advance its mission of preparing students for college and successful careers.

Medaille University closed in August 2023 due to reasons including the termination of a merger with Trocaire College and financial instability. The decision to close the university was made by the board. This closure has paved the way for BuffSci to establish its presence on the former Medaille campus, providing a new educational opportunity for students in the community.

In previous discussions with Dr. Polat, it was evident that BuffSci was interested in the Medaille campus for its high schools. The move to this new campus represents a great opportunity for BuffSci to enhance its academic offerings and create a supportive environment for students to excel.
