Golden State Warriors secure guard Buddy Hield in $21 million sign-and-trade deal with the Philadelphia 76ers

The Golden State Warriors made a significant move by acquiring Buddy Hield in a sign-and-trade agreement with the Philadelphia 76ers, just days after Klay Thompson signed with the Dallas Mavericks. Hield’s deal with the Warriors is guaranteed for two years with $18 million guaranteed, followed by a $3 million partial guarantee in the third year and a player option in the fourth year.

The Bahamas squad is coached by Chris DeMarco, an assistant coach with the Warriors. Hield, who averaged 12.1 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game this season, will join Stephen Curry in the Warriors’ backcourt, replacing Thompson as a 3-point scoring threat. With both Hield and Curry among the top players in total 3-pointers made over the past five seasons, they are expected to form a dynamic duo similar to the iconic Splash Brothers.

Thompson’s departure marks a turning point for the Warriors, who failed to make the playoffs last season after losing in the play-in tournament. Meanwhile, Hield is currently in Spain helping the Bahamas on an Olympic qualifying run in men’s basketball, with a chance to make history by securing the team’s first-ever Olympic appearance.
