Women’s Track and Field Day at Brighton Center Recovery

The Brighton Recovery Center for Women in Florence, KY organized a Track & Field Day for program participants and their families. It was a day filled with community, games, and food, emphasizing the sisterhood and support system within the Brighton community.

Among the fun and laughter, important services were also provided. The Northern Kentucky Health Department offered naloxone training, with Gabi Deaton sharing her personal journey of surviving heroin overdoses and going through the Brighton program. Her return to the center was a full circle moment, as she now provides services to women going through similar experiences.

UK Health participated in the event by offering free STD testing for participants. Senior health educator coordinator, Paul Trickel, emphasized the importance of getting tested to prevent the spread of diseases and potentially save lives. The day was not only about fun, but also about empowering women with vital knowledge to make informed decisions in emergencies.

Participant Emily Sanker reflected on her own growth and transformation through the program, highlighting how she has learned to overcome past behaviors and obstacles to create a better future. Families left the event with both fond memories and valuable information that could make a significant difference in their lives. The Brighton Recovery Center Track & Field Day successfully brought women together for a day of fun, education, and empowerment.
