Midtown businesses send a message to burglars following third break-in

Ounce of Hope, a business located in the Cooper Young area of Midtown, was the latest victim of a series of recent burglaries in the area. Nearly $6,000 worth of merchandise was stolen during the break-in, marking the third time in the past year that the store has been broken into. This incident has caused frustration among the staff and added to the challenges faced by the store.

Assistant manager Charlotte Campbell expressed her dismay over the situation, stating that insurance companies have dropped coverage for businesses in the area due to these repeated burglaries. As a result, businesses like Ounce of Hope have had to pay increased rates for coverage, further straining their financial situation. Despite these setbacks, Campbell emphasized that the store does not pass on these costs to customers.

According to data from the Memphis Data Hub, there have been 42 reports of burglaries and robberies of businesses within a half-mile radius of Ounce of Hope in the last year. The most recent incident involved two men breaking into Aldo’s Pizza and stealing over $1,000 worth of food and alcohol. Surveillance cameras at Ounce of Hope captured a clear photo of one of the thieves, though it is unclear if they are connected to the Aldo’s Pizza burglary.
