Statement on Enhancing Health through Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The coalition of leading health care and medical associations from across the country has come together to support diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies in the field. These organizations, which include the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), American Medical Association (AMA), American Osteopathic Association (AOA), Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS), National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME), and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) represent a wide range of health care professionals in the United States.

Throughout their history, these organizations have been dedicated to improving patient outcomes by providing physicians with the best tools and evidence available to ensure that patients receive the highest quality care possible. However, they recognize that there are longstanding inequalities in the health care system that continue to impact patient health and well-being. Without a diverse workforce that can provide holistic care without barriers to entry for qualified individuals, it is impossible to achieve excellence in patient care.

In order to promote DEI policies, these organizations have united in their commitment to ensuring that all members receive inclusive excellence. By working together, they hope to create an environment where everyone has equal access to opportunities for education and growth, regardless of their background or specialty. Ultimately, this will lead to better outcomes for patients and communities as a whole.
