The Secretary-General’s Message Commemorating World Autism Awareness Day

On this World Autism Awareness Day, we must recognize and appreciate the significant contributions made by individuals with autism worldwide. Despite their immense value, they often encounter challenges when it comes to exercising their basic rights to education, employment, and community engagement as outlined in the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

To empower individuals with autism to enjoy the same rights as everyone else, governments must prioritize investments in comprehensive support systems, inclusive educational programs, and technology-driven solutions. By doing so, we can create a more inclusive and accessible environment that fosters equality for all people.

It is critical to work closely with individuals with autism and their advocates to ensure that our efforts are effective. By collaborating together today and every day, we can advocate for their rights and strive towards a world that is more equitable and welcoming for everyone. Let us come together to create a brighter future for individuals with autism.
