Brainerd School Board Gives the Green Light to New Science and Math Curriculum for Various Grade Levels

With summer break in full swing, the attention of the Brainerd School Board has shifted towards planning for the upcoming 2024-25 school year and beyond. During Monday’s meeting, several topics were discussed, primarily focusing on curriculum for grades K-12.

Digital Learning & Curriculum Specialist Robin Knutson and Brainerd Area Schools Director of Instructional Technology Christina Lundgren presented three different curriculum proposals. The first proposal was for kindergarten through fourth grade, with a focus on media and technology to prepare students for middle school.

The mathematics curriculum for grades five through eight was also discussed, with Knutson emphasizing the importance of providing an updated method to meet state standards in this subject area.

For high school students, the proposed science curriculum involved OpenSciEd, a combination of OpenSciEd, earth, and space science courses designed to create an environment where students can effectively process information. This curriculum is aligned with the state’s framework for high school science.

The Brainerd School Board unanimously approved each of the proposed curricula, setting the stage for the future of education in the district.
