Jeff Bezos Surpasses Bernard Arnault to Become the World’s Wealthiest Person

Jeff Bezos has regained the title of the world’s richest person, surpassing luxury tycoon Bernard Arnault with a net worth of $209 billion. This marks a $32 billion increase since the beginning of the year as Amazon’s stock has risen by almost 25%.

Bezos, who co-founded Amazon and also owns Blue Origin, a space exploration company, is in first place on Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index. He holds around 9% of Amazon according to an SEC filing. Following Bezos are Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg and Larry Page, who have net worths of $200 billion, $179 billion and $156 billion respectively.

While Bezos and Arnault have similar fortunes, their paths to wealth are vastly different. Unlike Bezos who gives back to charity through his recent donation of $117 million to fund the preschools he founded and pledges to donate the majority of his wealth to charity in 2022, Arnault keeps a low profile when it comes to charitable giving.

Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, has also seen a significant increase on the rich list, climbing to 14th place with a $107 billion fortune thanks to Nvidia’s soaring stock. Representatives for Bezos at Amazon did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
