Registration deadlines for fall youth sports programs at Bend Park and Rec approaching

In Bend, the Park and Recreation District is readying for its youth fall sports programs as summer draws to a close. Parents and guardians are being encouraged to sign up their children now for programs such as youth soccer, kindergarten soccer, flag football, and middle school tennis.

Becky Rexford, sports programs manager at the district, stated that fall is one of the busiest seasons for youth sports activities in Bend. Soccer and flag football have set participation records almost every year during this season. To ensure children can enjoy great autumn weekends, parents and guardians should be aware of the upcoming registration deadlines in July and August.

The deadlines for fall youth sports programs are as follows: youth soccer (Grades 1st-8th) – July 8 or until full; kindergarten soccer – July 8 or until full; flag football (Grades 1st-8th) – July 29 or until full; and middle school tennis – August 13 or until full. These programs focus on participation and skill-building in a fun recreational environment while also providing recreation scholarships.

Volunteer coaches play a vital role in youth sports leagues by providing support with program logistics, coaching, and mentoring young players. All volunteer coaches must undergo an application process that includes background checks, concussion training, enjoying working with kids, and creating a positive recreational environment for participants.
