Fox Chapel aims for section sweep after rain delay: WPIAL sports highlights for March 27, 2024

On Wednesday, WPIAL baseball and softball teams resumed action after a rainy Tuesday forced cancellations. Fox Chapel baseball, with an impressive 1-0 record in section play, was looking to continue their winning streak as they visited Penn-Trafford. In their last game, the team needed extra innings to secure a victory over the Warriors, with Mitchell Epstein hitting a walk-off sac fly to score Joe Geller for a 4-3 win.

In Section 1-5A, Franklin Regional hoped to build on their recent success as they faced off against Penn Hills. The Panthers had just won their last game in dominant fashion with a 15-1 scoreline and were determined to secure another victory on Wednesday. Meanwhile, in Section 2-2A, Laurel managed a comeback win over South Side with a two-run walk-off single in the seventh inning. The teams would meet again on Wednesday.

In Section 1-5A, North Hills and Penn Hills would face off in their first softball contest of the season. Both teams had been performing well so far, with North Hills sitting at 3-1 and Penn Hills having won their first two nonsection games decisively. After playing a few more section games, the two teams would meet again in two weeks at North Hills.
