Charlton Shatters World 60m Hurdles Record in New York with 7.67 Seconds: FLASH

The World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting in New York on Sunday (11) saw the Bahamian sprint hurdler, Devynne Charlton make history with a stunning world 60m hurdles record of 7.67 seconds. This was an incredible achievement for Charlton, who had been in excellent form since the beginning of her 2024 campaign, with strong runs in Louisville and Boston leading up to her record-breaking performance.

Charlton’s remarkable time of 7.67 took just 0.01 off the previous world record set by Susanna Kallur exactly 16 years and one day ago. In New York, with a strong start and a commanding lead over her rivals, Charlton crossed the finish line in first place. She expressed her disbelief and joy at her record-breaking run, stating “I heard the announcer say something that sounded like ‘world record’, but it didn’t hit me until I saw my name and time on the clock.” The achievement of her goal left her feeling on top of the world.

In the same race, two-time world indoor champion Nia Ali finished second while two-time world champion Danielle Williams finished third respectively. More details about this event will follow as Charlton’s record-breaking performance undergoes the usual ratification procedure.
