AUA Reaches Historic Agreement with Vida Union for On-Board Staff Wage Increase

In a historic agreement, the Vida union and Austrian Airlines (AUA) reached a wage increase for their on-board staff on Thursday evening. According to a release from Vida, the salaries of around 2,500 flight attendants and 1,000 pilots will be gradually increased by 20 percent by 2026. The salaries of co-pilots will also increase by an additional eleven percent. This negotiated solution represents a significant increase in salaries above the inflation rate for the AUA’s on-board staff.

The agreement provides the company with planning security as the wage increase will be staggered over three years. However, it is subject to a positive vote by union members, which is expected to be a formality. The agreement also includes a peace obligation, preventing operational disruptions due to strikes until 2026. This will allow travelers to book their flights with Austrian Airlines without hesitation in the coming years.

The negotiations were challenging, lasting 20 rounds since mid-January, causing work stoppages and flight cancellations leading to significant financial losses for the company. The union had initially demanded wage increases in line with Lufthansa, the parent company. However, management deemed it too high. Annette Mann mentioned potential consequences if costs at AUA increased significantly due to higher wages.

Günther Ofner, head of Vienna Airport, welcomed the outcome of the negotiations and provided relief for both employees and customers alike. The agreement will ensure stability in operations and prevent future strikes while allowing AUA to continue its growth and focus on customer service.

According to Daniel Liebhart, Chairman of Vida’s Aviation Department, this negotiated solution is not only beneficial but also fair for all parties involved.

In conclusion, this deal marks a significant victory for both workers and passengers alike as they can now look forward to better working conditions and more reliable travel plans in the future.
