Atlanta is set to compete with Indiana for a spot in the middle of the standings this season, as they look to improve upon their fifth-place finish last year. With a record of 19-21, it was their best season since 2018.
The Dream are returning several key players for the upcoming season, including Rhyne Howard, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 draft and averaged 17.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. Allisha Gray, an Olympic gold medalist and three-time WNBA All-Star, also returns and averaged 17.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game. Additionally, center Cheyenne Parker returns after averaging 15 points and 6.7 rebounds per game last season.
In addition to their returning players, the Dream have added veteran center Tina Charles to their roster. Charles is an all-WNBA player and Olympic gold medalist who did not play last season but signed with Atlanta in free agency. She is still seeking her first WNBA championship and will bring valuable experience and leadership to the team as they strive for playoff positioning this season.
