In iOS 17.5 Beta 1, Apple now allows app installation from developer websites.

Apple has launched Beta 1 of iOS 17.5, which introduces a major change for the European Union (EU). This update allows users to install apps directly from a developer’s website, in compliance with the Digital Markets Act that came into effect in March. Apple has opened its operating system and app store to third-party stores and developer websites in the EU.

The possibility of distributing apps from a developer’s own website was first announced by Apple in March, with a software update expected to arrive in the spring. This capability is now available in Beta 1 of iOS 17.5, currently being tested by developers until the final consumer version is released in May.

Apple has also included mentions in the code of Beta 1 of a new system designed to prevent unwanted tracking of users with devices like AirTags. This feature will also allow users to disable such tracking.
