Amazon to Cut Hundreds of Jobs in Cloud Division

In a recent move, Amazon has announced job cuts in its cloud division. According to reports, hundreds of employees will be laid off, with the majority of the impact being felt in the sales, marketing, and global services teams at Amazon Web Services (AWS). Matt Garman, Senior Vice President of sales and marketing at AWS, confirmed the downsizing in an email to employees.

The layoffs come after a series of job cuts that have taken place over the past year following thousands of roles being axed in 2023. An AWS spokesperson emphasized that while these decisions were difficult, they were necessary for the company to continue investing in innovation for its customers. The company assured affected employees that they would receive support during their transition to new roles.

This news comes shortly after reports of layoffs in Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” technology team. These job cuts are part of Amazon’s ongoing cost-cutting strategy that has also included job reductions in its advertising, Prime Video, and healthcare units. Last year, several employees were placed on performance-improvement plans as part of Amazon’s restructuring efforts.

Overall, these job cuts reflect Amazon’s efforts to optimize resources and focus on key areas for growth and innovation. While challenging, these decisions are aimed at ensuring Amazon’s long-term success and sustainability in the competitive tech industry.
