Alexander Coon has been announced as the new Nebraska Business Development Center (NBDC) center director for the South Panhandle region, based in Scottsbluff at the University of Nebraska Panhandle Research & Extension Center. Coon’s role will involve providing no-cost business consulting services for small business owners and entrepreneurs in Scottsbluff, Banner, Kimball, Morrill, Cheyenne, Garden, and Deul counties who are seeking assistance with starting, growing, or transitioning their companies.
Coon’s position is part of NBDC’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) program, which offers a range of confidential services at no cost, including business plan development, financial projections, and market research. Coon expressed his excitement about the opportunity to support businesses in the area and highlighted the value of NBDC’s almost 50-year history in providing no-cost support to Nebraska’s entrepreneurs and business owners.
The Small Business Development Center program is just one of the five NBDC programs that offer support to Nebraska entrepreneurs in various ways. In 2022, NBDC consultants assisted over 2,000 business owners in Nebraska, resulting in an economic impact of $343.8 million through job creation, business investments, sales increases, and government contract awards. NBDC, based at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, operates offices across the state to provide their services.
Coon, who hails from Western Nebraska, holds a Master of Business Administration from Chadron State College. With a background in accounting and a strong track record of supporting community growth, Coon is regarded as the ideal person to support entrepreneurs and business owners in the Scottsbluff area. Tony Schultz, state director of NBDC’s SBDC program, expressed confidence in Coon’s ability to quickly establish himself as the go-to resource for business-related inquiries in the area.
