The San Francisco 49ers are hoping to keep receiver Brandon Aiyuk on the team in 2024, but it’s uncertain whether he’ll agree to a fifth-year option salary of $14.1 million. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Media, recent discussions between Aiyuk and the 49ers have not made any progress towards a long-term deal.
Garafolo mentioned that while no trade request has been made by Aiyuk, there seems to be a difference in expectations between the player and the team. It’s believed that Aiyuk’s agent was allowed to explore a trade before the draft in order to show him that his reported demand of $30 million per year was unrealistic.
Ultimately, it appears that Aiyuk was unable to secure a contract or trade that met his desired terms. If he’s looking for more than the $14.1 million offered by the 49ers, he may need to take a firm stance. The question now is whether the 49ers will meet Aiyuk’s demands, similar to how they did with Nick Bosa the previous year.
