This prestigious event is part of the FIDE World Championship Cycle and will feature current champion Ding Liren from China facing off against the youngest challenger in chess history, Gukesh D from India.
Scheduled to take place between November 20 and December 15, 2024, the World Championship Match 2024 will be open for bids to host the event. Applicants must submit a bidding form by May 31, 2024, detailing their budget breakdown and payment proposals to FIDE. The minimum required budget for the event is $8,500,000 with a minimum prize fund of $2,500,000. FIDE reserves the right to extend the deadline if necessary and may enter into additional negotiations to improve or modify the bid.
The final decision by FIDE will be based on all proposed conditions and the interests of chess development. The regulations for the event must be approved by July 1, 2024, with a total duration of up to 25 days.
